Habib Jalib

Habib Jalib (24 March 1928 - March 12, 1993) was born in village Miani Afghana in Hoshiarpur district of Punjab. He was a revolutionary poet who opposed martial law, authoritarianism and state oppression. His first collection of Urdu poems Barg-e-Awara was published in 1957. He wrote in plain language, adopted a simple style and addressed common people and issues. He wrote nine books of Urdu Poetry and a few poems in Punjabi.

ਹਬੀਬ ਜਾਲਿਬ (੨੪ ਮਾਰਚ ੧੯੨੮ - ੧੨ ਮਾਰਚ ੧੯੯੩) ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਹੁਸ਼ਿਆਰਪੁਰ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਦੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਮਿਆਣੀ ਅਫ਼ਗ਼ਾਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਇਆ। ਉਹ ਇਨਕਲਾਬੀ ਕਵੀ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਹਰ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਜਬਰ ਦਾ ਨਿਧੜਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਉਰਦੂ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਦੀ ਕਿਤਾਬ ‘ਬਰਗ-ਏ-ਗੁਲ’ ੧੯੫੭ ਵਿੱਚ ਛਪੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਬੋਲੀ ਬੜੀ ਸਾਦੀ ਤੇ ਮਸਲੇ ਆਮ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਉਰਦੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਨੌਂ ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਲਿਖੀਆਂ। ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਥੋੜ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਰਚਨਾਵਾਂ ਮਿਲਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
