Kulwant Singh Virk
ਕੁਲਵੰਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਵਿਰਕ
Kulwant Singh Virk (20 May 1921–24 December 1987) was born
in village Phullarwan, Sheikhupura district, Punjab Province,
British India. His father was Sardar Asa Singh and mother was
Sardarni Ishar Kaur Chatha. After doing M.A. in English and L.L.B.
he joined army as an officer. He wrote in Punjabi and English. His
short stories were translated into several other languages, including Russian and Japanese.
In 1958 he won his first award for his short story compilation titled
Dudh Da Chhappar (A Pond of Milk). He won the national Sahitya
Academy Award in 1968 for his short story compilation Navein Lok (New Folks).
His works include Chhah Wela, Dharti Te Aakash, Toori Di Pand, Ekas Ke Ham Barik,
Dudh Da Chhapar, Golan, Navein Lok, Duadashi, Atishbaji, Merian Sarian Kahanian etc.
